Josh Bernstein

Director & Board Chair

Joshua Bernstein is the CEO of Bernstein Management Corporation, a Washington, DC, based real estate management and investment company. Mr. Bernstein serves as a director of Capital Bancorp, a community bank. He is a member of the executive committees of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the Federal City Council and a founding member of the Washington Housing Initiative. Mr. Bernstein is a past chair of the board of the Sidwell Friends School and the Meyer Foundation.

Celia Bernstein

Director

Celia Bernstein has had a three-decade career as a fundraising executive for nonprofit organizations. She most recently was the Director of Development for Westside Family Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves low income and uninsured individuals and families. Her philanthropic involvement is centered around collaborative partnerships for social justice organizations including Liberty Hill Foundation, Jobs to Move America, Solidaire Network, Portfolia Investments, and Family Foundation Exchange.

Marianne Bernstein

Director

Marianne Bernstein is a longtime photographer, filmmaker, and independent curator. Her collaborative projects address social issues by bringing diverse people together in challenging spaces. She has served on the Boards of Artspace in New Haven, the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival, and Philagrafika. Her most recent book of photographs, Theatre of the Everyday, was released in early 2024.

Nancy Bernstein

Director

Nancy Bernstein is a donor activist who supports local, state and national organizations who protect democracy, address climate change, and improve public health. She has been heavily involved in pursuit of peace in the Middle East and continually strives to understand the challenges and seek opportunities for conflict resolution.

Nancy serves on the J Street National Board and was founder and co-chair of the local J Street Pittsburgh Chapter. She has served on the board of the Women Donors Network and remains an active participant. She represents the Diane and Norman Bernstein Foundation at the Social Venture Fund for Jewish Arab Equality and Shared Society.

Susan Bernstein

Director

Susan Bernstein, trained as a social worker, has been a ceramic artist for 25 years.

She is a Studio Artist and faculty member at Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville, MA, and teaches workshops at Truro Center for the Arts. Susan has a special interest in indigenous ceramic traditions, has documented maternal lineage potters in Nigeria, and works with several esteemed Zulu South African potters.

Susan currently serves on the Endowment Committee for the Byllye Avery Endowed Professorship in Sexual and Reproductive Justice at CUNY School of Public Health.

Elizabeth Bernstein Norton

Director

Elizabeth Bernstein Norton is the director of Holding Ground Media, a social justice-focused documentary film company based in New York City. She was the founder and Executive Director of Stone Soup Films, a non-profit film cooperative that produced and donated over 150 short-format films for worthy organizations in Washington DC. She serves on the boards of The Woolly Mammoth Theater and the Woods Hole Film Festival and was formerly on the boards of Panim and The DC Environmental Film Festival.

Kelly Lynch

Executive Director

Kelly Lynch is the executive director of the Diane and Norman Bernstein Foundation and senior advisor to Bernstein Management Corporation.  Kelly, a CPA, worked in public accounting before leading the accounting and finance departments at Bernstein Management.  For the past 25 years she has held various executive positions at the company and its affiliates.  She currently serves on the board of directors of Bread, Inc. (Bread for the City) and the leadership council of the Partnership to End Homelessness. She is a past board member of Philanthropy DMV, the Academy of Hope, Commercial Real Estate Women and the Murch Home & School Association.

Annika Monkarsh

Grants Manager

Annika Monkarsh oversees the foundation’s grant portfolio and community partnerships. She serves on the Bernstein Management community outreach council and the BMC Cares committee. Annika has a background in education and monitoring & evaluation. She served in the Peace Corps in the Vhembe region of South Africa where she picked up the Tshivenda language. Annika holds dual degrees in Neuroscience (BS) and Middle Eastern Studies (BA) from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Honors College.
